Synopsis:
Laney Walker is a quick witted, athletic, southern tomboy who lets few get too close, using her sarcastic zingers to deflect. She also has no idea how others view her, Evan having protected and coveted her since they were children. I knew from the prologue of this book that I was going to like it. I knew too that it would be one of those books that is heart wrenching to read. I wasn't wrong. It was such a good book. I started late last night to read, and read until I couldn't anymore. Then I got up and finished it this morning after taking care of business. This book was written so realistically, so many emotions went through me reading it. Laney, Evan, Dane, Kaitlyn, Sawyer, Tate and Bennett were all great characters. They were there for each other, or not - as the case may be, and were real about it. Kaitlyn, what a manipulative bitch, Sawyer, an ass - but a lovable one, Tate and Bennett, because they're inseparable and adorable and so right with each other.
Laney and Evan's story is timeless - what first love story isn't? I believe Laney did the right thing in letting go. Once High School is over, things change forever. It doesn't minimize your feelings for the other person, those will always be there for your first love. But it does mean you grow up, and sometimes you grow apart. Laney and Dane are just amazing together. I'm happy that she found someone who treats her with not only respect, but is protective of her in every way. Not to mention he loves her in a way that is undeniable and is one of those once in a lifetime loves. That's how it feels to me. I loved this book from start to finish, and I can't wait for the second book to come out. This author will definitely be on my to-read list in the future, now that I've got a taste of what she can do.
